In order to make the new students get familiar with and take full advantage of library resources, USTC Library offered an orientation to 2014 freshman from August 18th to 29th. The orientation was strongly supported by the Department of Student Affairs and teachers in charge of different classes.
Just like the theme-A Tour in the Library-of this activity, the content was thoughtfully arranged to meet the requirements of students’ daily life and study. Staff from Information Consultation Department gave a detailed introduction to the library collections, electronic resources, procedures of borrowing and returning, discovery systems and MOOC, all of which would help students with their study and promote their self-cultivation as well. At the interactive sessions of each training program, questions raised by the students were patiently replied by the staff.
The orientation for freshman students is one of the training series named Information Literacy Service held by USTC library. The service was carried on step by step in a straticulate way, based on the demands of students from different departments and grade levels. After a period of trial operation, the Information Literacy Service has started to run formally and is on the way towards systematization and routinization. Student will benefit from this training series, as the library gains more experience and feedback.
